What's Up With Our Troops? Find Out Now.

One of my core frustrations with the Corporate Media is how fast they turn onto, and off of, stories Veterans Day has come and gone and that means, sadly, coverage of veterans will come and go as well.

I saw this happen incredibly clearly with the Burma NewsLadder I launched just over a month ago, boom, everyone was on Burma, and then absolute silence from our media - interestingly enough, overseas the media has continued to cover the story; and we are continuing to link to all the stories from around the world and we are still getting great traffic to the site.

2007: Our Deadliest Year In Iraq

Here's a little news item you may have missed this morning:

"This Year, Deadliest For U.S. Troops In Iraq."

It seems that the five more unnecessary deaths of men and women yesterday gave us a new record, hell of a job Georgie, five more families's world is getting destroyed today, destroyed. And where are the Democrats on this issue of Iraq? Where is the media? Where is the outrage that this month, November 2007, we will spend:

$9 Billion In Iraq. NINE BILLION DOLLARS.

Hello? Is anybody out there?

Remember Burma?

A few weeks ago, we were inundated with pictures of the courageous monks in Burma - the days of demonstrations and protests filled our airwaves and the newspapers, and then, with the attention span of a toddler, the corporate media in America turned away, and away and now the issue is no longer front and center.

It's Time To Invest In America.

President Bush's veto of SCHIP, the program that provides health care to needy children, shocked the conscience of the nation. Despite bi-partisan support in both houses of Congress, and the overwhelming support of the American people, the far-right wing of the Republican party, led by President Bush, cut off funding for a program that ensures all children have access to basic health care. The President's actions spoke clearly: Bush and the Republicans believe that it's better to spend a trillion dollars on Iraq than it is to provide basic services to the American people.

In Praise Of Springsteen.

I have been fortunate to meet a lot of interesting people in my life, and especially in 2004 when I was helping out on John Kerry's campaign, and I am here to tell you that of all the people, no one impressed me more than Bruce Springsteen. Flat out, the real thing, which might explain why millions of Americans love him, respect him and listen to him, and his music.

On November 1, 2004, we had a big Kerry rally in Cleveland with John Kerry and many celebrities and a performance by Bruce. Not only did he dedicate "Thunder Road" to Kristen Breitweiser, one of his Jersey girls, he took the time to speak with all the widows before the show. And not just  quick hello, he had long conversations. I love him for that too.

Introducing The Burma NewsLadder

The situation in Burma is tragic and the result of decades of horrific military rule that has reduced one of the most beautiful places on earth to a tragic ruin where monks in robes flee from soldiers with Chinese-made automatic weapons.

One of the tragedies of the situation is despite the efforts of groups who have been trying to expose the situation on the ground in Burma. Groups like WITNESS and US Campaign For Burma have been fighting against the apathy that is our current corporate media culture.

If Britney was driving a young monk without a seatbelt, there would be a chance to get some coverage but sadly, young monks are smarter than that.

If Anna Nicole Smith's baby's father was one of the generals, well, they would be building permanent tv stations.

Where Are Our Leaders?

Three years ago, I had a conversation with Wes Boyd about state of the party, etc. I can't honestly recall who mentioned it first, but we agreed that one of the issues that would be most interesting and most critical is how we bridge the chasm that was developing between those outside Washington, D.C. and those inside.

MoveOn, to its credit, has made major steps in working more and with the leadership in Washington and, to a degree, those in Washington have reached outside the beltway, though the handshake is tepid and the support and true embrace seems fleeting if not vanishing at this point.

Is It Last Call Tonight For Obama And Edwards?

Last December, I sat in MSNBC's studio in New Jersey talking about the 2008 Democratic Presidential Race.

"It's too early!" I, and everyone else, cried.

But tonight, I will be in Hanover New Hampshire for the debate and guess what?

"It's game time."
